FAQ

Can we use the indoor pool if we are not a house guest?

Availability of the pool to outside guests is strictly house guest dependent. When the pool is not being used by house guests we will allow outside guests entry for a fee. No groups or under 5’s will be permitted. Towels are not available for outside guests.

Can we make a reservation for dinner?

We do not take bookings for The Powderkeg Restaurant. An a la carte menu is served from 5.30pm and a waitlist will be operated once all the tables are allocated. It is also possible to find a seat in the bar area and place an order without delay. Please ask our staff for advise and direction. Reservations are available for the Matterhorn Restaurant throughout winter and are highly recommended.

Are the restaurant’s children friendly?

They certainly are! Children menus are available. We do suggest dining early to avoid a waitlist on your arrival.

Do you have family rooms available?

The most suitable options for families are the Tyne Street Chalet or The Apartment. We have a maximum guest number of 3 people for a small number of hotel suites.

Is there storage available for hardware?

To prevent damage to the hotel, ski and Snowboards are not permitted in The Apartment or Hotel Suites. Storage is available in the Snowcentre for hardware items.

Is the hotel noisy?

The Powderhorn Chateau is situated in the ‘Junction’ area of Ohakune along with a collection of bars and restaurants. During the winter months this area becomes the hub of Ohakune and noise levels can vary. We have multiple policies and efforts in place to minimise unnecessary volumes however when at maximum capacity our wooden building does experience varying levels of noise.

Can we book accommodation for Saturday only?

During our high season we only sell Friday and Saturday nights together. Throughout the summer or low season this will be dependent on availability.
